Influences
Listed below are a selection of photographers that have appealed to me over the years. This is a collection of old and modern photographers websites that have influenced me on my journey as a photographer. They range from moving landscape photographers to modern day portrait photographersAndreas Gursky – “Visually, Gursky is drawn to large, anonymous, urban spaces of high-rise facades at night, office lobbies, stock exchanges, the interiors of big box retailers. In a 2001 retrospective, New York's Museum of Modern Art called the artist's work, "a sophisticated art of unembellished observation. It is thanks to the artfulness of Gursky's fictions that we recognize his world as our own". Gursky’s style is enigmatic and deadpan. There is little to no explanation or manipulation on the works. His photography is straightforward.” Source: Wikipedia

Ansel Adams - "At one with the power of the American landscape, and renowned for the patient skill and timeless beauty of his work, photographer Ansel Adams has been a visionary in his efforts to preserve this country's wild and scenic areas, both on film and on Earth. Drawn to the beauty of nature's monuments, he is regarded by environmentalists as a monument himself, and by photographers as a national institution. It is through his foresight and fortitude that so much of America has been saved for future Americans."

Helmut Newton - “Newton's work is rooted in fashion photography. lt is commissioned work; that is to say, it imposes restrictions from the very outset which go far beyond what editors normally require. It creates an image of society and of the role that women play in it. Its aim is to sell what it depicts, using the powers of seduction and the desires they awaken.”

Mario Testino
Now at the top of his profession, Testino has shot Madonna for Versace as well as photographing the late Diana, Princess of Wales for her famous Vanity Fair cover in 1997. His popularity with designers and fashion editors stems as much from his professionalism and good nature as his unerring ability to take beautiful pictures which sell clothes.

Rankin - “From his iconic shot of Kylie lying naked prostrate, which graced a million bedroom walls to the queen smiling enigmatically in front of the red, white and blue, Rankin’s iconic intimate portraiture style, and his mischievous eye have gained him a reputation as one of the world’s leading photographers.”

Links
There are a number of sites we find really useful as commercial photographers. They have provided us with invaluable information over the years, and we've included them here as you may find them of interest.
Commercial Photographers Network (CPN)
Lindsay Fowke Photography is a committee member of the Commercial Photographers Network. We've been involved with starting up and launching this new network.
The CPN is a network of highly experienced photographers who specialise exclusively in advertising, architectural, commercial, corporate, editorial, industrial and PR work. All of the photographers who are members of the network have been selected to join by their peers. The network is run by its members and does not rely on a large membership to fund admin staff or other activities. When commissioning a photographer from the network, you can therefore be assured that you will be working with someone who has many years experience and will produce work of the highest professional standards. It’s as good as a recommendation!
